Welcome to the homepage of Wayfarers Hiking Society, University of Birmingham! Our walks are now in full swing for the academic year. Our upcoming trips are listed below and on the trip calendar page. You can also see the sidebar for more ways to keep up with the society's goings-on.

About Us

Wayfarers is the University of Birmingham's society for all those who love hiking, mountaineering, and having a natter. Many of our members are mature or international students, which means there is always a great mix of people at our events, with plenty to talk about.

The Society is in its 86th year of existence and has a rich history in getting students out of Birmingham and off the beaten track. While the University has changed greatly in the past several decades, the hills and fields (and pubs!) of Britain are largely the same as when the first Wayfarers stepped off the tram for a ramble around the Clent Hills in 1933.

Membership costs just £9 per year, which gives you discounts in outdoors clothing shops, invitations to our socials, and the chance to sign up for our walks. Walks happen most weekends in term time, and come in two main varieties: day trips generally cost £10 or less; weekend trips are around £40, including travel, accommodation and most of the food.

If that sounds like a great deal to you, there are plenty of ways to find out more. You can subscribe to our weekly newsletter, like us on Facebook, or just carry on browsing the website.
