Tolkein Trail

Date:

Sunday, February 24, 2019

Description

You must be a member of Wayfarers to sign up. You will then receive an email a day or two before the trip with details on meeting times and trains we're catching. Please be aware the times indicated on Eventbrite are just a rough estimate.

Discover your inner Hobbit and join the Wayfarers as we explore Middle-earth. Or, if you're not a Tolkienist, come along and explore some interesting parts of Birmingham.

J.R.R Tolkien (1892-1973), who penned the epic Lord of the Rings trilogy as well as The Hobbit, lived in Birmingham between 1895 and 1911, when he left to study at Oxford. Birmingham was very influential for Tolkien and aspects of the city are apparent in his writing. We will be visiting some of these sites on our Tolkien Trail.

See you there my fellow Hobbitses! (Please note this walk is on a Sunday)

 Recommended Reading:
  • The Hobbit
  • The Lord of the Rings (The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers  and The Return of the King)
  • There are also some films you might have heard of
  • Please don't feel you have to read/watch all these...

What to bring:

  • Sturdy, comfortable walking shoes (that you don't mind getting muddy)
  • Lightweight trousers (definitely not jeans!)
  • Jumper and/or other layers
  • Waterproof coat and trousers
  • Packed lunch and water
  • Cash for emergencies
  •  A rucksack to carry it all in
